Section 2 / Services
Three ways to put your standards in writing.
Each service below is a clause brief: what it covers, how it runs, and what you come away with.
2.1
Editorial Standards Drafting
Preparation of a written standards document for your own reporting practice, developed through conversation rather than adapted from a template. Covers what you will and will not do when gathering material, how sources are treated, how corrections are handled, when a piece is held back, and how disagreements are resolved. Suitable for individuals and small groups.
What's Included
- ✓Two one-hour sessions over three weeks
- ✓A drafted standards document you own
- ✓A short public-facing version for your site

2.2
Method Transparency Practice
Guidance on describing your own method to readers in a way that supports trust without becoming self-referential. Covers writing a short method note for an investigative piece, stating what was checked and how, explaining what could not be established and why, describing approaches made for comment and any silence received, and publishing supporting material where it is appropriate to do so.
What's Included
- ✓Two sessions of 75 minutes
- ✓A method note drafted for one of your own pieces

2.3
Independent Practice Certification Preparation
Structured preparation for reporters and small outlets seeking to demonstrate their standards to funders, press bodies or partner publications. Covers assembling written policies, evidencing how they are applied in practice, documenting corrections history, and preparing an account of the editorial process that would satisfy an external assessor.
What's Included
- ✓Four one-hour sessions over two months
- ✓A full documentation set assembled and reviewed
- ✓A self-assessment framework you can repeat annually
